Sun B Som® is a Liposomal Amphotericin B (50 mg) injectable product produced in lyophilized (freeze-dried) form for intravenous administration. This medication belongs to the class of potent systemic antifungals and is specifically used to treat severe, invasive, and life-threatening fungal infections. The liposomal formulation of Sun B Som increases efficacy and reduces renal (kidney) toxicity compared to conventional Amphotericin B. This drug is administered exclusively in hospital settings under the supervision of an infectious disease specialist.

Amphotericin B binds to ergosterol in the fungal cell wall, creating pores that cause the leakage of cellular components, leading to fungal death. The liposomal form of Sun B Som encapsulates the drug within liposomal nanoparticles, which results in:

  • Reduced damage to sensitive tissues such as the kidneys.

  • Effective concentration at the site of infection.

  • Increased patient tolerance.

  • Reduced need for high doses and shorter treatment cycles.

  • This formulation is one of the most advanced and safest types of Amphotericin B.

  • Store in the refrigerator at temperatures between 2°C to 8°C.

  • Do not freeze the medication.

  • Keep in the original box to protect from light.

  • Inspect the vial for discoloration or damage before use.

  • Preparation and administration must only be performed by authorized healthcare personnel.

  • Prohibited for use without the supervision of a specialist physician.

  • Use with caution in patients with pre-existing renal problems.

  • Potential for fever, chills, hypotension (low blood pressure), and allergic reactions during infusion.

  • Use during pregnancy only if it is a vital necessity.

  • Use with caution and under medical supervision during lactation.

  • Monitoring blood and kidney function tests during treatment is mandatory.

Contraindications:

  • Severe hypersensitivity to Amphotericin B or liposomal components.

  • Concurrent use of highly nephrotoxic drugs (requires extreme caution).

  • Injection outside of a hospital environment or without resuscitation equipment.

  • Common Side Effects: Fever and chills during infusion, chest pain, nausea and vomiting, headache, and infusion-related reactions.

  • Potential Side Effects: Renal impairment (less common than with the conventional type), hypokalemia (low potassium), hypomagnesemia (low magnesium), pain at the injection site, hypotension or tachycardia.

  • Anemia may occur during long-term treatment.

  • Monitoring patient symptoms during infusion is critical.
